Dal Lake in Srinagar is the source of life in the area. Everything happens on the lake. You live in a houseboat and arrange your life by boat. Even the police patrols by boat, shops come by boat ...

We lived in a houseboat on Dal Lake for about three weeks, enjoying the deepening winter atmosphere of Kashmir.

is a lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of the northernmost Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The urban lake, which is the second largest in the state, is integral to tourism and recreation in Kashmir and is nicknamed the "Jewel in the crown of Kashmir"or "Srinagar's Jewel".
